Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology (IWU)
The Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology (IWU) has significant experience in developing technologies for high-rate resource-efficient series production. These significant competencies and infrastructures are coupled with specific expertise in hydrogen system components at the locations in Chemnitz, Dresden, and Zittau/Görlitz. This creates an ecosystem at Fraunhofer IWU that allows for the investigation and significant further development of fuel cells and electrolyzers, depending on production technologies and considering usage-specific factors. For several years, Fraunhofer IWU has been concerned with designing and developing production technologies that enable cost-effective production of fuel cells and electrolyzers, primarily with regard to the stack and its components. This essential component of hydrogen system technology offers great potential for further development to increase performance and service life and reduce costs. With the recent hiring of a new employee with expertise in water treatment (Master of Science in Hydroscience and Engineering, with a focus on water treatment) as of June 1, 2022, the planned development can be scientifically supported.
Krenkel AWT GmbH has been specializing in the planning, maintenance, implementation, and operation of sewage treatment plants since 2009. Texulting GmbH specializes in the development of textile systems and technologies. Through numerous projects, the company has established itself as a competent service provider with partners both in Germany and abroad. The industries range from fashion companies and the construction industry to developments in the field of veterinary medicine. Smart sensor systems for industrial applications have already been developed successfully in these projects. Texulting GmbH has been entrusted with the requirements of custom machine building for many years. The company develops and implements custom solutions in the field of technical textiles. In these projects, a preferred solution must always be identified and implemented in the area of tension between feasibility and economy. These focal points can also be found in the project at hand. For about three years, the company has established a strong cooperation with Fraunhofer IWU. As part of this cooperation, Texulting GmbH has developed extensive know-how in the field of hydrogen technology. Through various cooperation projects and studies, the company has demonstrated its performance in questions from generation to cross-sectional tasks between textiles and hydrogen. In the spring of 2021, the municipality of Hettstedt commissioned the company to apply for the HyLand/HyExpert program. The company participated in the 7-month concept phases of the RUBIN alliances EBaaS and DuSwaP, whose content was the concept of an actively tensionable fuel cell or the high-rate production of fuel cell stacks. Through these two projects, the company was able to gain valuable technical experience and build a good network of suppliers and users of hydrogen/fuel cells. Additionally, Texulting GmbH is involved in the HyTrA project, which focuses on the development of a microgrid. Based on these experiences, Texulting GmbH is suitable to address the ambitious questions of this project and ensure sustainable positive development with the solutions.
